Hi,

I've searched the Net for a solution to my problem but to no avail - luckily
I found a link here.

I have a HP6915 with WM5 partnered with my home and office computer both
running Outlook 2003 on XP SP2.

Everything has been running smoothly since December last year when I
purchased the HP. Then three weeks ago my HP seemed to freeze whilst syncing
through the cradle connected to my home computer. I removed the HP and
reconnected. ActiveSync then tried to establish a new partnership (which I
did). Since then ActiveSync won't allow a partnership with both computers.
I'd set it up at home, arrive at work and find that it wants to establish a
new partnership. The same thing happens when I then connect at home that
evening. It starts retrieving settings, advises that I need to delete an
existing partnership and set up a new one.

Deleting existing partnerships and creating new ones seems to be all I'm
doing at present!

I uninstalled ActiveSync 4.1 on both computers and installed 4,5. I've
renamed the device name, changed the partnership names... all to no avail.

If anyone has any idea of how I can solve the issue I'd really be most
grateful.

I'll give the background to the problem below this for those who may have an
idea and need more info.

BACKGROUND:

The background to the problem is quite long but it may give a clue to
someone more knowledgable than myself!

Earlier this year I found that Outlook starting dropping attachements to
certain specific recipients. There seemed to be no solution to the problem.
Someone suggested deleting the recipient from my contacts and then creating
a new entry for the person which seemed to work for a week or two before the
same problem starts re-occuring. Sending the attachment to the same
recipients or distribution list with Thunderbird solved the problem but that
meant that I was running dual e-mail clients which is a real killer. (Has
anyone ever heard of- or experienced the same problem with attachments?)

I then heard about Birdiesync (www.birdiesync.com) which syncs Thunderbird
and Lightning. I did the installation and ran it through the trial period
without a problem. I switched to Thunderbird as my default e-mail client at
the office and kept Outlook 2003 at home. After about 3 weeks I hit the snag
at home with ActiveSync and wrote to the support at Birdiesync who sent
several potential solutions, none of which have worked thus far. The most
drastic solution suggested by Birdiesync is to hard reset my HP but I'd like
to avoid that if at all possible. I'm also not sure whether that will solve
the problem.

I have uninstalled Birdiesync, reverted to Outlook as my default e-mail
client, uninstalled Activesync 4.1, installed 4.5.

What should I try and do next???

Hi,

I am not sure what's causing the device to advice setting up a new
partnership. Since you have said you have been synchronizing with two I
would suggest you delete the partnership on the computer (Home) and then
delete the existing partnerships from device too. You can access the
partnership information via ActiveSync on your device and you should find
two partnerships. Delete both.

Then connect and establish a partnership so that your device has only one
partnership. Then at work delete the partnership from the PC before
connecting and set it up again there. See if that helps resolve your issue.

Hi Raj,

Thanks for taking time out to give me some advice. Unfortunately it still
did not resolve the issue.

I deleted the partnerships on the device then set up a new partnership at
home. After deleting the device on Activesync on my Office PC I set up a new
partnership there. When I got home tonight, Activesync first gives the
device a new name ie. changing it from WM_Bert (Office) to WM_Bert1 (Home)
and then requires new settings.

Most frustrating.

I just wish someone else on the forum would take a stab at how it can be
resolved.
