I am trying to connect my Treo 700W to my Toshiba Tablet PC running XP. the
first time the connection went smoothly. But then I had to leave and took my
phone with me. When I returned and tried to re-establish the bluetooth
connection I received the message: "Port Not Available....Quit any programs
that may be using the port and reconnect." I have restarted my computer and
soft reset my Treo but am still receiving the message.

Ideas?

Hi,

See http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=41365. Suggest you check
the setting "Allow connection to one of the following:" setting under
File -> Connection Settings in ActiveSync.

As I said in my original message...this worked one time and then will not
work again. The port is there and enabled and the Connection setting in
Activsync points to the aforementioned port.

Can you tell us how the PC gets it's Bluetooth? Is it via a plug-in USB
dongle device? Is it built-in to the PC? If built-in, might there be a
switch that turns it on and off to save battery?

I've used a dongle for this operation before and, when the dongle is removed
from the PC, you get this error, because there's no port there, although the
ActiveSync settings are unchanged and, if you reinsert the dongle, will
work. I would suppose that turning off built-in Bluetooth would have
similar effects.

Bluetooth is via USB dongle. I didn't remove the dongle. I removed the
phone from the bluetooth area. Don't know if that makes a difference.

Here's a different twist. Bluetooth is turned on the TREO, Port is
configured (viewed device manager, ports to make sure). Activesync is
configured to connect to that port. When I try to connect, the TREO thinks
about it and then SHUTS DOWN THE BLUETOOTH ON THE TREO. Go Figure!

So now I'm not sure what activesync is looking for or why it is shutting
down the bluetooth on the TREO.
