Hi,

I have a JVC MiniDV camcorder, and I can connect it to my MCE PC. I can
view teh movie inside Movie maker, and use controls on screen to
play/stop/pause/ff/rew the camcorder

I'm wondering of I can do this from inside MCE interface.

The issue is my tv has only one Video in, and it is used by MCE PC, so
I cannot connect the camcorder un less I disconnect the PC. So I'd like
to use the firewire interface of my PC to be able to see movies from
tapes directly in MCE

Is this possible? Directly I don't think so, I didn't saw any option
like that, but at least with some add-in or plugin?

Thank you

Bogdan

I have not seen any add-in that does this...as far as I can tell, Media
Center completely ignores a FireWire interface. As you say, MovieMaker works
pretty good with FireWire.

If you ever find such an add-in, please let us know here...

I have (had) the EXACT SAME problem! After 30-40 hours here's what I found
out (before I finally got it working!)

IEEE1394 is a set standard commonly known as “firewire”.
SP1 did not meet fully the standards set down by the IEEE.
Most camcorder manufacturers do not use proper IEEE1394 standards.
As SP1 AND camcorders did not meet the standards properly, they tended to
work well together.
Now, SP2 MEETS the standards set by the IEEE in more detail, a decision
taken by MS to try to implement standards across the board more closely.
The camcorder manufacturers, who STLL DON'T meet the IEEE stds, have trouble
working now. (JVC sure does and I hear that Sony is WORSE!).

I won't go into all the crap that I did trying to fix it - the bottom line
is (and this is a common fix among JVC owners) was to change the firewire
card to one with a "TI" chipset - all worked perfectly after that. At the
same time the drivers were updated on my system again (video card, bios, bios
chipset).

As far as customer service goes, I would NEVER EVER EVER reccommend to
ANYONE (cept maybe my ex-wife! LOL) to purchase JVC! They, and I quote, said
"it's a windows issue and nothing to do with JVC. Go buy another camcorder
or an older computer if you want it to work". Yep, I kid you not - that's
what the hag on the cust service line at JVC Canada said!

If that doesn't work, go to www.myvideoproblems.com they are awsome with
helping!!

James
