Hi All:

Anybody know how (thru 3rd-party SW or config) to hear WAV files on Treo
700w? Our voicemail system sends WAV files that my mobile users wish to
listen to. Thanks

I bet you have a Cisco Unity voice mail system huh?

They do not store and send uncompressed wave files, too big. Cisco
uses a compression codec called u-law by default. Pocket PCs do not
support that codec. You can load a third party media player that
supports the u-law codec but you will have to save the attachment,
open the player and point it at the saved attachment. Might as well
dial in :-( The other option is to get your voice mail admin to switch
the codec used. There is one specifically designed to be Pocket PC
compliant. I believe it is the GSM codec. It is a system wide change
from what I have been told. I am working on getting our admin to
switch.

New info. The free Pocket PC media player called TCPMP can play u-law
encoded wave files. And it can be associated with the .wav extension
and configured to play the file and exit when you click on a .wav
file. works great. The negatives are you have to load a full blown a/v
player to just hear a small audio file and you can no longer click on
a GSM encoded wav file and play it.

What we really need is a replacement for the built in sndplay.exe
utility that can play the currently supported formats and u-law files.
Anyone seen such a beast or have any ideas on how you would go about
writing one?
