Canadian Geographical Names, Level 1
http://www.geobase.ca/geobase/en/data/cgn1.html
However, note that there are always issues to be considered
when using a location associated with a geographical name:
- many Canadian geographical names have their positions
provided to the nearest minute, which may not place
them accurately enough for some purposes(if the reported
position is "00" for the seconds, this may be the case)
- even for a name associated with a 'point feature', and
with an accurate location, the feature name may appear
at a somewhat different location on a map, due to
cartographic reasons(i.e. placement of labels)
- non-point features, such as a town or river may have a
location that is 'somewhat ambiguous', unless you have
access to specifications for how the locations were
derived. For example, for a town, is a location the
geographic center of the town's boundary, the location
of the town's airport, city hall, or something else?
For a river, is the location the headwaters, the river
mouth, or somewhere else?
P.S.
Newsgroups are distributed worldwide, so it's always a good
idea to provide enough detail so people know what you are
talking about. For example, using "Canadian GeoGratis",
and also provided a URL ;-)
