DO take the precaution of backing up the old BIOS first, on to a
floppy at least. It's also possible to get a situation somewhere in
between laptop and doorstop, that may be recoverable. You can also
recover from a total doorstop situation by replacing the bios chip
(but there's a long turnaround in shipping).
Actually, my line of work puts me into contact with quite a few
doorstops that look like laptops. (Computer recycler and refurbisher)
How will I recognize yours? :)
