IPAQ 3970 running Pocket PC 3.0.11171 and Active sync v 3.7.1

Returned from holiday and found my IPAQ has lost all power and deleted
permanent PIM. Trying to restore from activesync profile on laptop as
this is my only backup. Firstly it would not recognise the pairing, now
that it has with the same name and location it is not picking up either
the outstore or repl .dat files in my profiles directory. It is looking
at the outlook PIM info from my work laptop which I do use.

Which ever way I come into activesync or change profiles name and move the
..dat files I cannot pick them up.

Question

1. Is there away to point the ipaq to the .dat files
2. If not is there way to convert .dat files to .pst files so that I can
pick them up in outlook and sync that way.

Understand that I using old devices and software versions but am in
process of upgrading to new pocketpc device, laptop and to outlook but
urgently require the contact details from my old machines (maybe it is
there way of getting me back for looking to upgrading them !). Would be
grateful for any assistance.

If you Pocket PC is fresh (after the forced hard reset), the best option is
to simply delete the partnership on your laptop and create it again. This
will repopulate the data on your Pocket PC from the laptop.
