I am looking for a PCMCIA sound card for my new Gateway Vista
notebook. The built in notebook sound isn't that great and not crazy
about the built in speakers. Also need some speakers to go with it.
Any suggestions? I need the card to have line in or spdif so I can do
some audio recording. Thanks in advance.

Also forgot to ask about USB sound cards too...might as well find out
about them.

Try eBay or Craigslist for "Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA". Are you
sure your notebook has a Cardbus/PCMCIA slot? Many notebooks no longer
have this interface.

I saw one on craigslist for $65, on eBay they fetch about the same.

yes mine has one...thought it was a floppy at first until I read the
specs on my notebook. It's the Gateway MX8738 that I have with Vista
Home Premium. I have also been looking for usb sound cards and came
across the Audio Advantage SRM USB Sound Card by Turtle Beach. Gonna
read reviews on it first...it seems to have all the connections I
need. Thanks for the info.

also, any suggestions for portable notebook speakers that will work
with the card? I'm really leaning to the Turtle Beach usb card when I
get the extra cash to spend.
