I have a wireless Linksys WRT150N router. My XBOX 360 is recognized on my
network. My problem is connecting to the Windows Media Center using my XBOX
360 as an Extender. I have the correct 8 digit key code to enter when
prompted to connect WMC. I get all the way to to the screen Extenter set up,
a check mark appears in configuring computer settings. Then the next screen
comes up and says Set up could not find your extender, with instructions to
verify the following...extender is on,set up key is correct and the firewall
is set up to allow UPnP discovery. I have done everything I can think of, I
have read these posts, I have read troubleshooting guides. I have checked my
security settings, I am running Windows Firewall and Mcafee firewall (my
security settings say both are running. I have turned off one then tried to
connect WMC Extender, then I have switched and turned off the other firewall
and tried to connect, but still it says Set up could not find extender. I
have even gone into the security settings and allowed access to WMC and the
UPNP discovery. I am running Vista and my network settings are fine. I can
connect to the internet and to XBOX Live. Any help would be greatly accepted.
Thanks

Running two software firewalls is not recommended as they can conflict with
each.

McAfee is known to cause problems in Vista. Sometimes they don’t show up
immediately.
Replace McAfee with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall and Windows
Defender. Disabling McAfee is not enough. You need to completely uninstall
it.

Am I to uninstall Windows Firewall and Windows Defender as well as McAfee?
and then replace with one of these that you mentioned? Thanks
