I've been told conflicting things about syncing my iPAQ with Vista and
Outlook 2003. One "tech support" person says use Active Sync, another says
it must be done through Windows Mobile Device Center. Who do I believe?

The one who correctly said WMDC. It's the Vista-compatible
replacement for Activesync.

FYI...Get ready for non-stop issues with WMDC...

Typical Vista-like behavior: flashy interface, nothing nice under the hood.
