Hi,

I've just installed the MSN Desktop Search, but it is not able to find
anything: "Nothing found in All locations for query ... ".

The only hint is in mapi.txt: "02/08/2006 17:14:54 error
WindowsSearchFilter.exe (PID:3476 TID:3500)        InitRowFilter could not open
message (8004010f)".

Neither rebuilding the index nor reinstalling the app did help me out.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Torsten

Are you using the German language keyboard input method, by any chance? I'm
currently trying to resolve a problem where certain searches, e.g., "ipass",
"telekonferenz" return no results when using the German keyboard input (any
flavor, inlcuding Switzerland), but give a full set of results with any
other language. Even with the German keyboard, "ipas" or "telekonferen"
(dropping the last letter) works just fine.

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

yes, it's the German input locale, but even if I switch to EN no results are
displayed even if I search for strings that should definitely exist.

Thanks,
Torsten

Hi Torston

I have exactly the same problem: Desktop Search doesn't find anything,
regardless of the searchstring and regardless of the index that is build
correctly. Always 0 results. Have also the same entry that you in mapi.txt.

I have contacted Microsoft about this problem and have got feedback that
this is a problem that happen on few systems and that MS is researching the
problem, but has not a solution so far.

But I suppose that you ar the Torsten from the German SMS Group. So you have
probably SMS Software (Admin Console, SMS Support Tools) on your system, I
also have installed the SMS Console on my System. Is this perhaps the source
of the Desktop Search problem? But I have no time to remove the SMS Sofware
from my system (and removal is never a complete removal, so even if SMS is
the source of the Desktop Search problem, this would probably not solve the
problem). But Desktop Search is working fine in a virtual machine that I use
for test purposes on my system.

best regards,
Franz

I've had Windows Desktop Search and the MSN Toolbar running on my system
since last September when I set it up. I've always been in EN. Today,
Desktop search can't find anything. When I look in index status it says 0
files indexed. I set it up to reindex (it crashed at that point), and on a
reboot it started reindexing and then failed. The Online Crash Analysis
referred me to a page that indicated I should download the newer version.

When I go to download I get this check that says I have a newer version
already (I am running the 2.05.... version).

The only thing new that happened is that I needed to download and install a
new version of the LiveMeeting desktop console and 1st-line support had me
deleting all kinds of things (the problem had to do with DEP).

I am also unable to find a full download. Just the tiny web installer wants
to run and gives up. I really like being able to download all of the
softwarre and not being in administrator while I am using the network.

I really count on desktop search running and working on my system. I am not
looking forward to a reinstall.
