Not indexing local .pst files Press250 06-10-2005

Just installed the latest version of Windows Desktop Search; certainly a
promising looking tool! I'm running Outlook 2003 off an Exchange Server, and
I've got a pair of ~100MB local .pst files in addition to the Inbox folders
on the Exchange Server. I waited the requisite few hours (with Outlook open)
for the initial index to be built, but it does *not* include the local .pst
files.

I went under the Desktop Search Options and selected Custom folder and
e-mail locations, which showed check marks next to my local .pst files.
However, I noticed that in the results window under the Otlook icon only my
Inbox (on the Exchange Server) shows up.

Just for completeness sake, I had it rebuild the index but was left with the
same problem. Any thoughts?

In the results shell only one "Inbox" folder is shown under Outlook & this is
not limited to Exchage server only. It actually return all the mails in Inbox
of all the configurations inclusing PST.

Is that all your mails in PST are directly under the root say under
"Personal Folders" ? In that case its a known issue which we will be fixing
in next release. Try to move the mails to some foders in PST like "Personal
Folders"\My Mails.... then it should work.

Praveen--

Thank you for your response. When I select Go>Folder List at the top I see
"Mailbox - John Doe" which is my inbox on the Exchange server and with
everyhting associated (calendar, tasks, sent items, etc) also on the Exchnage
server.

Further down, I have two local PST files that appear at the root of the
folder list (in other words, at the same level as "Mailbox - John Doe". I do
not see anything specifically called out as "Personal Folders", though I can
say with certainty that the two local PST files are on my local hard drive
and not on the Exchange server.

One items perhaps worth repeating: when I look under the Desktop Search
Options and select "Custom folder and e-mail locations", it does show check
marks next to my local .pst files.

Any other ideas?

Regards,
Bruce.

My situation is similar to yours. I have one local PST file.
However, in my case it does get indexed, at least the
items in the root of it do.

I also have archives (psts) that are not opened when
I use Outlook, and there is no way these can be indexed.
Pity, because this can be done in other applications, e.g.
Lookout. Since Lookout now belongs to Microsoft, they
should include this functionality in the MSN stuff.
