Even though the Visio viewer is installed and
I can open a Visio vsd file in Internet Explorer,
only the names of different tabs of the file will
show in the preview, not the actual drawings.

Have you mapped Visio previews to use the native previewer via the registry?
Visio previews default to using our generic document preview so you'd have
to make a registry change to get the preview pane to use the Visio viewer.

I created a .vsd key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\RSSearch\
ContentIndexCommon\Previewers\Extension\ and gave it the value of
.

Is that what you have in mind?
