I'm building a site that needs to use GET variables in the URL. These will
affect the behaviour of the underlying page, so if people are linking to the
pages it's best if they don't have these variables in the URL.

If I put NOFOLLOW directives on each of these pages but submit a
sitemaps.xml then that should suffice in getting the pages indexed fine for
Google, MSN and Yahoo shouldn't it?

This sounds way more complex than it need be. Why would you have such
an url configuration? Not that I'll understand it when you answer...

I have a single Flash movie that is displayed on every page but the rest of
the page needs to be HTML. When a new page is loaded, I pass variables to
the movie to direct it to play certain frames that represent the "outro"
from the previous page (hence passing the GET variable) and to play other
frames that represent the "intro" transition to the page we're on.

is there something of mission-critical earth-shattering importance in
these Flash videos?

You can't people stop from linking to those URLs. You can try stuff like
checking the referer etc. to see if it's an external link or not, but it's
not 100% reliable.

No, not really, some spiders *do* follow the link but don't count it as an
inlink, see:
