I installed MSN Search and can see and use the toolbar in IE and in the task
bar, but it does not show up in Outlook 2003. If I right-click in a clear
area on the toolbar in Outlook, I do not see "MSN Toolbar" as an optional
menu, and it isn't in View >> Toolbars either.
Since searches from IE or the deskbar do not turn up anything from Outlook,
I have to believe that MSN is not indexing or looking there. I have
installed XP Service Pack 2, and ensured that Office 2003 has all the latest
updates. I have made sure that Outlook is my default mail reader,
uninstalled and reinstalled MSN search, rebooted and restarted both Outlook
and MSN Search (several times), and did a repair of my Office 2003
installation and still no joy.
In MSN Search, I have tried both the "Email and the My Documents folder" and
the "Specific Locations" options with no change. I do see my Outlook pst
file as a choice, but selecting it does not help.
MSN Customer Support suggested deleting HKCU\Software\Clients\Mail from my
registry, but it wasn't there to start with. They also suggested checking
for MSN Search being disabled in Outlook (Help >> About Microsoft Outlook >>
Disabled Items), but there was nothing in my disabled list.
I believe that something is wrong on the install side since the toolbar is
not available in Outlook. Is there any way to determine why it isn't
present? Does anyone have an idea how to get this going?
