Hi: I hope I'm posting this to the appropriate group. I don't want
to cross-post; I seem to get into trouble doing that.
I need to learn a more updated method of designing webpages. I have a
homepage with a couple of businesses associated with it, which is
designed in---by all accounts--html code "circa 1987" (when I
graduated from college). I'm sure the assessment is correct; though
my pages appear to be functioning okay, I'm concerned.
What this means is that, since I have MS and really can't attend
school in the usual fashion, I will need to teach myself the new CSS
format. Looks like I'm going to have some time to do that this winter
and I'd like to get started. Problem is, my eyesight is rather poor,
so I'd like to do at least some of the study using a book, versus
doing absolutely everything online.
So, here are my questions if anyone has time to address this:
1. What book would you recommend as a good basic introduction to CSS,
and maybe a followup book or two (or three). I see lots of CSS books
on Amazon, but I don't know which are best;
2. Can you give me any sense of, if I spend probably thousands of
hours, updating my design skills, that these new skills won't be
outmoded themselves, in the near future; and
3. Looking at my homepage, how hopelessly outdated and ineffectual is
it really: http://beststudentviolins.com/Home.html
Many thanks in advance,
Connie

Connie, I'd recommend that you visit your local library and read the CSS
books there. You'll almost certainly find that some suit you better than
the others. Once you know which ones you like, you can usually pick them
up on ebay very cheaply. I got my "C" reference for $0.30 - it is in a
lot better condition than the reference books I paid full price for a
few years ago.
I could recommend the book that I use but:
1. You probably wouldn't like it
2. I'd get laughed at for its use of papyrus and cuneiform.

Steve, thank you for responding, but I think people who don't have
mobility problems forget--or perhaps never knew--that it's not so easy
to just dash here and there. It's easier for me, with my MS, to get a
book at home.
Recommendations?

Do the tutorials at www.htmldog.com You only have to move your mouse
and maybe a finger or two for the keyboard.

As I mentioned, I don't want to do it all online; I have visual
problems, too. That's why I keep asking for book recommendations.
