New PC, Old PDA. Will not connect to new PC? Luke122 11-08-2006

Hey everyone,

I have an Audiovox PPC-6600 Pocket PC/Cell phone, running Windows
Mobile 2003 Second Edition. It came with Activesync 3.7 and was
originally setup to sync with my desktop PC running Winxp. No problems
there.

I've just obtained a new laptop, and donated the PC to my wife, so I've
moved all of my Outlook information, and all my files to the laptop.
I've installed the original activesync software on the laptop, but when
I try to sync with the laptop and the PDA, the PDA/phone dials out to
obtain the emails, and never connects to the laptop. The activesync
troubleshooter confirms that the USB is available, and tries to connect
to the PDA. As soon as activesync attempts the connection again, the
PDA/cellphone dials out to obtain messages.

In the activesync settings, it says "Connect to this PC: SELMAIN"
(SELMAIN is the old PC) and there is no option to change it to the name
of the laptop (which is.. laptop. I'm original hey?).

I've tried to delete the partnership on the old PC, thinking that would
cause the PDA to look for a new partnership, but no go. I tried a soft
reset (hitting the reset button), no luck there either. I contacted
UTStarcom (who took over Audiovox's cellphones) and they suggested a
hard reboot. The problem I have with that is that when I try to run
xbackup to save everything to an SD card, it keeps giving errors about
files being in use, and wont complete.

HELP ME!
-Luke

Hi Luke,

I didn't quite understand this bit -

"In the activesync settings, it says "Connect to this PC: SELMAIN"
(SELMAIN is the old PC) and there is no option to change it to the name
of the laptop (which is.. laptop. I'm original hey?)."

Could you explain a little more about which ActiveSync settings you are
referring to? Is this on the PC or the device? With respect to the backup
issue, did you try performing a backup after performing a soft reset? A
soft reset should help close any documents or programs that might be
running.

This setting is on the PDA device. The PDA will not connect to the
laptop (new pc).

I did try a soft reset, and still had errors of files in use when
trying to create a backup.

Hi,

Sorry, I have no idea about whats preventing your backup application to
perform the backup.

Unless the partnership is formed with your new computer you will see the old
computer name on your device. When you connect the device does it
automatically dial out or are you clicking the "Sync" button within
Activesync on the device? Note that when you try setting up a partnership
you will only need to follow prompts on your computer. Did ActiveSync on
the desktop prompt you with the partnership wizard when you connected the
device?

The device only dials out if I press "sync" on the laptop, while the
device is in the cradle.

I was never prompted to setup a partnership on the laptop.
