Replacing the hard disk seems unnecessary. Booting from a Win98 diskette
for instance and running Fdisk /mbr might be sufficient. If not, using a
tool like Disk Director and True Image from Acronic by booting on the
rescue CD should provide a solution.
Finally, I would suggest you check on Linux users forum since I do
believe Linux can provide you a solution with its disk utilities.
Sorry for not being able to be more specific, it is years since I did
not run into that problem, but do not throw away a perfectly good drive!
