Umm... Shouldn't windows already have these features? "Search and Browse
Smarter Using MSN Search Toolbar..." Search Smarter that with what, the
buit-it search the MICROSOFT made. So basically, their fixing the problems
they created in the first place.

Oh yeah, another example of Microsoft being stupid is this, from the DPM
beta newsletter:

Our beta continues to move right along!! We have received over 400 bug
submissions to date and that number continues to increase each week.

Umm, isn't having 500 bugs a bad thing????

I rest my case

Microsoft isn't necessarilly fixing problems they created in the first
place - think of MSN desktop search more of a feature added by popular
demand ;-)

Essentially, it all comes down to Microsoft giving the consumer what they
want - and my guess (and this is strictly a guess) is that the idea of
desktop search functionality never crossed anyone's mind - consumers,
Microsoft, or otherwise - never even popped up back in 2001 when Windows XP
launched.

On that same token, will such a feature be built into upcoming versions of
windows (Longhorn, etc) from the get-go? Assuming my "give the consumers
what they want" point of view is correct, I'd like to think so...

Last but not least, in regards to your DPM beta statement, having 500 bugs
is a bad thing, but FINDING 500 bugs (in a pre-production/beta version)
isn't.

The way I've always looked at it, if John Q. Public finds a bug in a final,
released piece of software, then that's obviously bad news; but if a tester
happens to find bug(s) in a beta version, then such is the better. Not that
the presence of bugs is good, but in a testing situation, those using the
software have the unique ability to alert the product team of whatever bugs
the software in question has before the product is released. Long story
short, the more bugs a beta tester finds in a pre-release build, the less
likely the end user is to find bugs in the finished product.

Just my two cents...
