If an established domain moves to a new web host after say seven to eight
years with the same host/ip, will it have any impact on the Google rankings
for said site?

The site will be updated and changed, but not until several weeks after the
move has taken place.

You will get differing opinions, but my experience has shown the answer
is no - you will not be hurt in the rankings.

I agree.
Worst case scenario is a brief glitch if one host or the other louses up.
But they'd have to try hard!

Updating the site is another story, and you can mimimise problems there by
planning well ahead, and working in stages if possible (giving SEs time to
assimilate one section before you start the next). You'll also be planning
the extent of 301s and whether you need to change names at server level.

Plus you will read, consider and inwardly digest this (if you haven'r
already!):

Did exactly that to one of my sites in late March (2001-08) and there was
NOT any change in rankings or SERPS.
SERPS go with the domain, not the host.

Does "updating" insinuate new pages, with new names?

Best practice is to place redirects from old to new in effort to retain
the established links and/or traffic.
