Moved User Files - Now No Access Dave Mackler 07-18-2006

Servers are 2003, SP1 with AD. Workstations are XP, SP2. Several users
moved to a different Site, and IP segment.

I copied their user folders to a notebook. I then copied the user folders
to a shared folder, USERS, on the new file server. Staff have full control
on their own folder. Mapped a drive, U:\, in a logon script, that works.
Users can read and open any document or spreadsheet but not save or modify.
Users cannot add a child folder ot file. Outlook generates errors that
access is denied to the user's PST file.

All security settings indicate eveything is Full Control for any user in
their own user folder.

What did I miss in moving their files so that they can't save, modify or do
anything yet security is Full Control. I don't get it.

dave Admin (and a not very good one today !!)

See if the users are owner of their folder or not. Strange things can happen
if the user is not owner of their home folder, user profile folder, or
redirected documents folders. Beyond that I would double check the NTFS and
share permissions. Users should have full control permissions to the share
also. When checking NTFS permissions also go to the advanced page to see if
there are any special permissions that could cause lack of access.

It sounds as if the share level permissions are Read
