Motorola Q sync problems - duplication and deleting private Contac jviren 01-05-2008

I have had my Motorola Q for about 7 months and got it only because I liked
the idea of being able to sync to Outlook and have my Outlook Contacts handy.
However, I have only dared to sync twice in that time because many of the
contacts have doubled and tripled in those two times, both in Outlook on my
computer and on the phone itself! It is very frustrating to try to delete
all the doubles and triples. Any solutions to this? Also, problem number 2
is that even though a Contact in Outlook is marked private, it still shows up
on my phone, very UN-private. Other than individually deleting the ones I
want kept private each time I sync, is there any way to remedy this easily?
So far, I don't like this phone at all! Thank you!

Sperry Software do duplicate eliminators that should help.

There's probably an easier way, but you could set up a second contacts
directory, move the private entries to that directory, and set Activsync
up to only sync with the original public directory.

Thank you, Bob. I will try the eliminator. Not sure about another Contacts
folder thing. I made multiple Contacts folders (for another reason) and now
I have mess because I can't use MS Journal or sync my phone to the folder I
have made...and now they are not all the same and I don't know how to sync
THEM! :(

Unless huge numbers of contacts make it impractical, you can open the
contacts you want to move, then "File" > "Move to folder" back into the
original contacts folder, I think. When you've got them all back into
one you'll be at least on the way to sorting the problems. It may be
that Activsync will only connect to the original contacts folder, in
which case having sorted everything you'd need to put the contacts you
don't want to sync into the new folder. However, never having played
with Journal I don't know if that would work for both folders. Don't
forget to set up the new folders as a contacts type folder.

Bob
