I'm having a problem getting the work url exceptions to work on my Moto Q (I
have the MSFP installed). According to Motorola's crack Q wireless/VPN team,
this feature exists but does not work and I should have bought a PPC instead
of a smartphone if I expected this type of functionality... I find that
answer arrogant and very hard to believe.
Here's what I am trying to do:
I have a site on my intranet that is configured to allow connections from my
internal IP address range. Therefore in order to browse it using my Q I need
to be connected via VPN.
Here's what I tried to do:
Figuring that this is precisely what the Work URL Exceptions was created
for, I added my FQDN and wildcard for the subnet (i.e. the URL pattern is
*.mydomain.local which appears as [A *.mydomain.local/*] in the list after I
finish adding it ). I now assumed I could browse to
http://MY-DC.mydomain.local/reports/ and PIE would parse out the URL, match
it to the exceptions list, kick in my VPN connection and all would be well.
Not a chance...
Some of my other settings:
PIE > Tools > Options > Connections has automatically detect settings
checked (enabled) and 'Select network: ' set to 'The Internet'.
My Q came with 4 default connections (A,B,C,D) under Start > Settings >
Connections. the only relevant one to this issue is C - VPN (i'm assuming
B - Proxy has nothing to do with this but of course I could be wrong). Under
C - VPN i have created my PPTP connection to my server that has 'Connects
from: ' set to 'The Internet' and 'Connects to: ' set to 'Work'. I know that
the VPN connection is setup correctly because if I change PIE's 'Select
network: ' from 'The Internet' (default + currently set) to 'Work', PIE will
establish the VPN connection succesfully and all its traffic with flow
through this connection.
Start > Settings > Connections > Advanced also has 4 default connections
(A,B,C,D) and they are all set to their default 'Automatic'. the Options tab
has a setting 'My desktop connects to: ' (which I do not know what it is
for) set to 'The Internet'
And of course, my carrier is Verizon.
Final note:
I've tried all types of wildcards in the exceptions list, including *, *.*,
*/, etc. in an effort to get anything and everything recognized as an
exception and have the VPN fire up. No luck wiht that either
I don't know what else to do! Help please!
