So basically I am having problems using my xbox 360 as a media extender. I
installed the software on the PC, set it up, and entered the 8 digit code.
However, when the Xbox is is "contacting" mode, it all of a sudden jsut
freezes up. Won't continue contacting, just stops and crashes and I have to
reset the xbox. My current configuration is the Xbox and MCE computer are
both on a SWITCH (not a ROUTER) so there is no port configuration on that
end. Now I had the same set up over a month ago and it was working jsut fine.
But then I had to send in my Xbox for repairs and when I got it back I had to
re configure everything. However, I was having mad problems with the software
after I installed SP3. Tried fixing it, but said screw it and reformatted and
reinstalled the OS. Since then I have been getting the same issue. Always
crashes with contacting the Media Center computer. I have all the updates to
MCE (sans SP3). I installed the Media Extender software just like last time.
I have Firewall turned off on teh computer and no virus protection. Is there
some otehr setting I am forgetting? I have media sharing set up in Win Media
Player 11 and if I don't use extender and use the dashboard instead to see
all my music files, they appear just fine, but I want to use the Extender.
That's half the reason I got this thing anyway. So wrapping up, has anyone
had this issue before? Is there a setting I am forgetting to set which is
causing the Xbox to crash? Any help on this would be incredibly appreciated,
as I have been fiddling with this POS for over a month now. Thanks everyone
and sorry for the long post, just wanted to get as much info out to everyone
as possible. Thanks.

I'm also on MCE 2005 Service Pack 2 (not 3) and recently my Xbox 360 started
freezing on the "Connecting" step of its process. Seemed to start after
some recent security updates w/in the last few weeks. Any help would be
appreciated.

I am having the same problem.

I also can't connect as a remote desktop. The guys that are having the
same problem should try this as well.

New format installed and all updates done and the xbox keeps freezing.
I also have two linksys extenders and they keep saying that they are
being disconected by host computer.

I can't go SP3 as it makes my tuners not recognized in MCE. Microsoft
wants me to switch to Vista, I am sure.

I am having the exact same problem. Everytime I connect either my Xbox 1
Extender or my Xbox 360 extender it freezes on the connecting screen. I
have installed SP3 then removed it, made no difference. It must be some
security patch that has installed, can anyone tell me which patch is
causing the issue?

This is a poor show from Microsoft, they release a service pack that
causes more harm than good. I am planning to reinstall MCE XP with SP2
and disable automatic updates.

On a side note, I will not upgrade to Vista as the V1 extenders are not
compatible. Again the reason for this is clear, they want us to spend
more money, there is no other reason.

After hours of messing around with MCE 2005 SP3 & My Xbox 360. I have
cracked it, it turns out that it is being caused by .NET Framework 3.0
SP1. If you uninstall the .NET Framework 3.0 and restart the PC then it
should work.
