Actually it was a wonderful answer that clearly gave you a good indication
of the likelihood of the request being fulfilled. To simply carry on with
the clichés; You've got a better chance at seeing God on a motorcycle than
you do at seeing Microsoft spend money, man-hours, and reputation to develop
a non-direct financial return project to enable search in a competing
browser. When Ford motor company gives its trademarks, intellectual
property, and brand names to their competing companies then you might expect
the rest of the global businesses to give money and reasons to people to
switch to competing products.

I'm not sure if you were signing your name as jerk or calling me one. Either
way that is entirely up to you to figure out. I have long since realized
that I can't control how you think or feel (that's a generic you - not you
specifically in case you were calling yourself a jerk which isn't very nice
you know) and have been called all sorts of names by people over the years.
Usually because I gave them information (such as this) that they didn't want
to hear. That isn't my fault. The point is that you will probably never see
Microsoft do all sorts of things. One of the things that is unlikely to
happen is Microsoft making their search application work for Firefox.
Another good one? Microsoft making everyone's PC default to the Google
search page as the default home page. More good ones? Giving away Office
because they think "you'd be better served with OpenOffice.org's product."
You could make a funny top ten list of things that you probably won't see
coming out of Redmond any time soon and the MSN Desktop Search for Firefox
should probably be on that list - and should likely be in the top five on
that list.

At any rate, to clear this up here and now, my role that I have chosen and
performed for a good many years now is to provide people with information
when I have it and they ask. I do so openly, honestly, and without any
effort at making someone feel less than for having had to ask a question. I
go to great lengths to ensure that I give clear answers while not trying to
appear anything other than a fellow end-user which, frankly, is really all I
think of myself as. The only reason I know any answers is because I've
broken everything and bugged everyone to get the answers over the years. If
this is a jerk to you - and I'm still not sure if you signed it jerk or were
calling me one - then I don't know what to tell you. Your simply not going
to see that happen (MSN Search for Firefox) for a long time probably.

Galen, I understand the position you take, but one must concur that your
tact was...a bit rude. Defensiveness is natural, though, and I'm sure you
initially meant to sound more "playful" than arrogant.

I must admit that I looked for a Firefox add-in in a bout of wishful
thinking, though. :P

It's another Microsoft Monopoly. Funny how you can use dozens of toolbars
on IE, but god forbid if you even THINK about using MSN toolbar on another
Browser. I can't wait for another class action lawsuit against Microsoft for
the MSN toolbar. I'll be one of the first to sign up. Granted I love WinXP
now, but I know of a lot of businesses who still use Win2k cause WinXP has
been proven too unstable.

What?!?
Not making a *free* browser toolbar available for a 3rd party browser doesn't
equate to a monopoly.
Let's see... MSN Toolbar - provides easy access to Windows Live Search and MSN
properties... Internet Explorer is developed by Microsoft. It only makes sense
to code for your own browser first. And, coding for 3rd party browsers adds to
the audience that might come to your web properties...
