MSN Search causing a lot of DCOM errors! spudGUN 06-28-2005

Hi,

After installing MSN Search Toolbar I have noticed that the following DCOM
error appears every minute.

The server did not register with DCOM
within the required timeout.

I have looked for the above GUID in the registry and it points to MSN
Search. It does not seem to be causing any problems, it is just annoying! Has
anyone else had this problem? Can someone, maybe from Microsoft, offer an
explanation as to why this is happening?

Many Thanks,

Michael

Sounds like it's trying to report your computer usage or something,
kinda like a spyware agent it possibly sounds like, keeping track of
what you do and surf maybe? Or maybe when your web browser doesn't find
the page you are trying, it tries the default search and there is a
registry error somewhere?

Maybe try reinstalling the MSN toolbar (if they are gathering your surf
history, it is not to harm you but to better your surfing experience I
am sure). They may have changed something in a newer version that will
fix that error, they are always fixing stuff up...

I don't trust other company's toolbars (creeps me out to think I am
being watched, even if I am not doing anything I wouldn't want my wife
to know about) so I made my own on http://www.best-toolbar.com (its
free, give it a whirl)!

Please let me know if you find out the answer as I am always trying to
learn more about the workings of competitors toolbars.

Thanks

I have the same problem, using the latest 2.5.0.1105 version.
When WindowsSearchIndexer.exe is not running, I can not use desktop search.
When it is running, then every minute a new instance of
WindowsSearchIndexer.exe is started. This new process writes the DCOM error
in the eventlog (The server did not
register with DCOM within the required timeout.) then exits. And starts again
in one minute. And my eventlog is filled up with this messages, 1440 times a
day :-((
Anybody has an idea how to supress this messages, please??

Thanks
Csaba
