After installing Norton System Works 2005 my computer slowed down so I
decided to stop all unnecessary services, knowing that I will have to
restart some of than afterwards. I just wanted to get through the
installation with Norton. Eventually, after all the services stopped
that I thought was possible I decided to uninstall Norton and swore
never ever to install it again.

I restarted the service as I got error messages with printing etc. The
desktop search never worked after it but also did not give me an error
messages. It was saying something that it was not running and should be
started from the program menu, which i tried just to get the message
again. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the application and now I am
told Building an Index. Results may be incomplete which made sense to me
at the beginning. However, now it has been a couple of weeks again and I
am still getting the message.

Any suggestions?

thanks

I found that if you open the "indexing status" window (by right-clicking on
the taskbar icon) and keep hitting "index now" then eventually, after about a
dozen attempts, it does finally index everything. Then again, I would have
thought that by a couple of weeks it would have gotten round to it anyway.
