I'm running MSN Search/Windows Desktop Search 2.01 on Windows XP
Professional SP2. I have a lage amount of text-fiels with different
extensions - such as .txt, .doc, .psp and .nws (from Outlook Express
newsreader). But MSN Search does not search, or index the contents of the
..nws files only the filename. Why is that?
Neither can the Desktop Search show me the content of the .nws files - it
only shows a kind of "404-file not found" page.
Can you help me?

Snifty, you can open Options and select the Advanced page and add .nws
files to the list "Index file types as text".

As to why... there are thousands of text files out there. We tried to
pick up as many as we could but missed a few along the way.

Paul, I can not enable advanced options,
when I click and open advanced options page, all items of this option page
are disabled (I can't click and write anything), and it says "Windows Desktop
Search could not be stared. Please remove and then reinstall MSN Search
Toolbar."

I tried reinstall Desktop Search from add/remove list, but still got the
same problem (one of my colleague has same problem as well).

OS : Windows XP pro (Korean version) SP2

Thank you.

I wouldnt bother asking them

For some reason anyone from microsoft simply will not answer anything about
that problem. It's happend maybe 20 times so far

There is a partial workaround for it, downlaod and use window enbaler and
click teh options. You can't type in text (you can..but it's a royal pain in
the butt to do it)

It worked just fine - after I rebuild the index!! Thank You so very much! :-))

But still I can't see the content of the .nws file in the preview area - is
that a register-thing?

I understand that - I'm just surprised, since .nws files are comming from
Outlook Express which automaticly comes with any Windows-package. So I would
haved thought it was one of the first formats, you would have picked... ;-)
