Anyhow, fortunately you used a comma. Beware posting or using a real email
address in the newsgroups else you're likely to get flooded with SPAM.

..tif files are actually indexed but here's the problem... At least I think
this is the problem. That is an image file, as such it has no text based
input that can be indexed by MSN Desktop Search. Such is, I'm afraid, a
limitation in place for all such search utilities I expect though, to be
honest, I've certainly not tried them all. I can take all of my images for
my site, add a watermark that's text based, and then open the search and try
to find all images on my drive with that watermark and it's never going to
work.
But, you didn't post this because you wanted no answer or to be told it
simply couldn't be done. The truth is that I can honestly say that what
you're trying to do can not be done but that doesn't mean that you can't do
what you want to do - only that you need to do it differently. You'll need
to find a work-around.
You'll want to convert the .tif to a file that can be indexed. Sounds simple
but searching is showing that this is going to be problematic at best and
expensive at worst. I'd say to try converting it to .pdf format but there's
been a lot of people complaining about .pdf and when you try to prereview
the file you'll potentially suffer everything from freezing to it just plain
not working.
My recommendation then would be to convert the .tif files to a plain text
file. That's no good though really. Some of these faxes may have included
images and as such won't convert and you might want those. At least, if
nothing else, you'd know which fax it was by it's name hopefully but still
not a solution that's good enough.
So the long version is this...
Convert the .tif to .pdf:

Try to index those and if it works you're good to go. If not then using the
same site find an application that will convert .pdf to text (.txt would be
the name.) You can get such from the same site. Is it fast or easy? I'm not
sure but it's probably not too hard or to slow. But it should be effective
and it's about the only work-around I can come up with right now.
