Has anyone used or had issues with using a networked storage device for
storing recorded shows? I planned to add a second drive to my HP m7690y
but the the local is poor and the wires wont reach it. Nice design HP. :)

I ran into Best Buy and they have a nice 1Tb drive that I can put on the
next network.

Regards,

Matthew

No reason why it shouldn't work, just map a drive on the HP to a directory
on the NAS and change the MCE storage location.

Thanks Dave, I just thought it would be a better solution than adding
big drives to a machine that will be replaced in two years as compared
to disk that will last a very long time. On a 100Mb lan, I would not
have any issues with video quality.

I may be doing the same thing, although I haven't decided between that and
using a pair of 400GB drives in a raid 1 in the MCE PC yet.

Actually, this won't work. MCE does not support recording to a Network
Share by default. This is because the necessary services run under the
System account's credentials and that account does not have network access.

It can be done, however, by adjusting the permissions on the necessary
services, to run with a local user account, instead of the System account.
Also, you need to manually edit the Registry to change the Recorded TV
location to use the UNC path to the NAS device you want Recorded TV Stored
on.
