You are right JRush.
Swapping the mail files can cause the harm you are talking of.

But there is an alternative to this also; we choose the opposite side of the
coin.

What you can do is:
- Simply copy the mail database file from the archive folder location to the
actual mail folder location.
- Now, for the time-being (till the time your mails are indexed) change the
local mail settings of your mailbox* to the name of this archived mail file.

* To change your local mail settings, go to this Notes client menu: File ->
Mobile -> Edit current location -> select "Mail" tab -> and in the textbox
labelled "mail", change the name to your archived mail file name.

-- And you are done!
jus don't forget to revert back to the original mail file in the settings.
