I haven't found a discussion of this issue...

I have a new sony vaio laptop (vgn-ar190g) running xp windows media
center edition. When I try to watch "live tv" on my computer screen it
will play fine for 3-4 seconds then stop. The tv image will become a
blue screen. I have tried various analog source (2 vcrs + 1 dvd player)
and both the s-video and coax inputs on my computer, they all do the
same thing.

It's like there's some decoder or something decides there is no signal
and shuts down the tuner after a couple of seconds even though things
were running fine. If I change stations and then back (using chan 3 on
input) it will again tune fine, then cut out after ~3 seconds.

Any ideas?

I should have mentioned in my problem decription that I have NO
problems playing DVD's in my notebook's DVD drive. It's the external
analog "live" tv input that doesn't work properly.

Have you asked Sony about this? Almost sounds like a hardware problem with
the tuner. If its under warranty, see if you can get them to replace the
tuner...
