My advice would be to start off with a boot-cd linux version.
Like Ubuntu or Knoppix.
Just boot from it and see what devices are supported and which
problems surface.
If the life CD runs fine, install the distribution.
If you hit problems, no harm done. And hardly any time wasted.
Just try some other flavour.
