There is a substantial amount of lag when using the Xbox360 as an Extender
with Vista RC1 x64 build 5600. This delay is sometimes 30 seconds or so
between key strokes. They are connected via gigabit LAN. I noticed the
wmplayer.exe process running in 32-bit mode with virtualization.

The hardware has a dual boot with MCE 2005 and Vista RC1 x64 Build 5600.
There is a large dedicated volume (RAID array) for media. Both OS partitions
draw media from this volume.

The MCE 2005 version works flawlessly.

I'm not seeing that at all, but then again I'm on the 32-bit RTM version.
Hopefully Barb Bowman will respond, as I know she runs x64 and 360's in
various combinations...

I guess I better ask to clarify...you're seeing the lag between keystrokes
on the 360 (with remote keys), or on the Vista box while the 360 is in use
as an extender?

This is similar to an issue I ran into, so if you haven't found this already,
here's a possible reason why you have lag:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929707/

The symptom I saw was that ehshell.exe would take up 100% of the CPU when
streaming video to the Xbox when connected through a gigabit LAN. If I
swapped the gigabit switch w/ a 100 Mb switch, streaming HDTV would only take
up ~20% CPU. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly Media Center is
sending that would fill up the buffer on my switch when a 100 Mb traffic is
more than sufficient to stream the HDTV video.
