I have this strange Treo (With Unlimited Internet Use) from Verizon Wireless
that I can not figure out how to make it work.
I have Sync issues.
Exchange 2003 SP1 (Single Server) Treo has Windows Mobile 2005 edition.
Exchange works fine with my old MPX 200 or MPX 220 over the air sync and
desktop connection. Some users use desktop Active Sync connection (Who does
not have Internet Service) and others over the air. A year ago, it took me a
week to figure out how to sync over the air. The problem was the Server
name. I turned off the Certificate Check and in Server name I put my Public
IP Address instead of mail.servername.com. It started working.

Now with new Treo with WM05 I am starting it from the scratch again. It will
not sync with desktop contacts. No contacts show up on Treo. It syncs with
Inbox and Calendar. But the Contacts. I think it's because user has two sets
of contacts. Is it a problem? Should user delete the one set of contacts
which found under Inbox? I moved it under Deleted items and it still does
not work.

Over the air was not successful. Even using USB will not sync due to some
issues with SSL Certificate. The Certificate is streight forward it works
fine with Webmail. The problem is I can not turn off the certificate check
on the phone. I can not install certificate on the phone. With the older
version of phones I did have lots of problem with this certificate issue.
Even if I installed certificate on the phone it was telling me that there is
problem in the name. So I got a brand new SSL Certificate from different
company and it was still a no go. Finally whatever works, I started using ip
address in the name of server with certificate check being turned off. I did
call Microsoft before going thru all this and they had no answer.

Now my question is how can I make my Treo work over the air as well as
desktop sync. I need to make one of this work. There is no one supports
Active Sync. Microsoft makes you to go to Wireless company, Wireless Company
sends you to the phone manufacturer and Phone Manufacturer (Treo) has no
clue what you're talking about.

Thanks
Sandeep

I have a Treo 700w and am syncing with Exchange 2003 SP1 over the EDVO
network just fine. The thing you might be missing with the
certificates is that you have to install the root certifcate for the
certificate authority that issues the cert for your server NOT the
server's cert. Here is how I set up the certificates where I work.

We have our own PKI structure for internal certicates. I installed our
root certificate on the Palm by exporting it from my desktop machine
in the proper format (DER encoded binary X.509). Get that .cer file on
your palm anyway you like and click on it. Unlike some phone carriers
(like Orange) the Verizon Treo is not locked down so it will install a
certificate without a signed certificate installer. Check to see that
the certificate shows up under Start - Settings - Certificates - Root.
That sould do the trick. You can verify it by browsing to your regular
Outlook Web Access address (not the OMA address), if you don't get a
untrusted certificate warning you go it.

Now if you are getting a warning with a purchased certificate then the
700w does not trust the Certificate Authority you got the cert from.
The 700w trusted CA list is much smaller than a standard Windows XP
machine's. You can indentify the proper root certificate on a desktop
machine for your CA and export it then install it as I desribed.

If you haven't managed certs on a XP box before search Microsoft for
Starting the Certificates snap-in.
