Hi Everyone,

I am working with a county commisioner and she has an assistant that
schedules her appoints for her. She currently uses a Treo which she has to
give to her assistant everyone morning so that her assistant can sync it for
her to update her calandar. The reason they have been utilizing a Treo is
because the application is independent of the county's Exchange Server and
their Outlook client. The reason they do not use a Blackberry, which the
county would provide for free, is because they want to keep her personal and
work related schedules, emails, etc completely seperate. Is there anyway
that if she was to purchase the Motorola Q her assistance could sync the
device without utilizing the county's Outlook app and thier Exchange server?
Her service provider is Alltel. If you need more infomation or specs please
notify me. Any assist would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

JB

For what I understand from your question, her appointments are on an
independent application and not in Outlook or Exchange.

This means that if the application doesn't provide some way to sync its data
with Exchange or Office, she will never be able to sync it to the MotoQ.
Besides, maybe the application has been developped only for PalmOS?

I am not sure I am understanding your question well, but if the above is
true, not only choosing the MotoQ would not help, it would make damage.
Usually, when you choose a hardware platform, you need to choose one that
fits the application requirements of the users.

Helio,

First, I would like to thank you for your response. From your response I do
not believe I was clear enough. Her assistant utilize the Palm application,
that is loaded on her county commission workstation, to input my client's
schedule in calendar part of the application. The Palm application that has
the calendar syncs to my client's Treo by pysically placing my client's
device on the assistant's docking station. The reason they are using the
Palm application and the Treo is because the county only maintains the
Exchange server as well as the data that is on it (email, calendar, etc).
My client really wanted to get away from the Treo because she does not care
for the design of the device, additionally feeling more comfortable with the
MS Windows look that is available on the Motorola Q. On that note, I
previously had T-Mobile as my celluar provider and had a Sidekick as my
phone and PIM. My Sidekick synced with my personal Outlook syncing
everything from my calendar to email to tasks. The most impressive feature
was the portal that T-Mobile had on it's website that catered to the
Sidekick. When I login into the T-Mobile's website I was able to pull up my
calandar, contacts, emails, etc. If I made any changes, additions, and/or
deletions via the portal my Sidekick would be synced wirelessly upon
confirming any changes, adds, or deletions. Where my question comes in is
if her assistant has access the a web portal such as the one I previously
described from T-Mobile her assistant would be able to eliminate any
application on her workstation and just utilize the portal to update or
modify my client's calandar. I know my client would like to sync her
Motorola Q with her Outlook but the problem is that she does not do her own
scheduling. That task is passed onto to her assistant.

Let me know if this is enough infomation and if there is a third-party
application that would be able to accomedate her needs. Finally, my last
thought was to have her hosting administrator provider her a calandar that
she would be accessable via the Internet and sync her Motorola Q to that.
She uses a personalized domain that is hosted by a company that she
outsources her email and websites through. Let me know how you feel about
this option. Thanks in advance for you assistance. It is much appreciated.

Thanks,

JB

Sorry to say, I still don't understand.

Let's try to focus on the following questions:

1. Is the Treo being used a PalmOS device or a Windows Mobile device? Or, to
make it simpler, what is the Treo model (600, 650, 680, 700, 750)?

2. Is the Treo sync'ing with a Palm application on the desktop, with
Outlook, or directly with the Exchange Server?

If I have simple answers for these two questions I will be able to tell you
if the MotoQ is a viable solution.
