I see I can exclude file types; how about specific folders?

Hi Sam,

How this works will depend on what you have installed. Are you running the
enterprise version of Windows Desktop Search or are you installing it as
part of a previous version of the toolbar utility? If you can tell me what
version of the product you are running I can help to get you more specific
information.

For the enterprise version of Windows Desktop Search, I know there is a
policy setting in the .adm file for the following:
Prevent Indexing of Outlook
Prevent Indexing of Public Folders
Prevent Indexing of Uncached Exchange Folders (OL 2003)

The .adm file is available at the following location. (note: right click on
the download button and select Save Target As, and browse to where you want
to save it. Otherwise it displays in the browser as a txt file.)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/desktopsearch/enterprise/downloads.mspx

On the same page there is a link to the WDS Administrators Guide which
discusses the various admin policies etc. (Similarly, righ click the
download button and select Save Target As...)

I hope this helps!

J.R.

Hi Sam,

I misread your post as 'Public Folders' instead of 'Specific Folders'.. :)

The closest I see in the guide right now is:

Prevent Indexing Certain Network Shares

Prevent Indexing Any Network Shares

Thanks JRush- it looks like for now, the answer is "No"...
I am using the MSN Search Toolbar (not the Enterprise version)

There's not so much a way to EXCLUDE folders from indexing, but you can
specify WHICH folders to index. Just go to the search options and
choose 'indexing' --> 'custom folders and locations'. From there you
can specify which folders/network drives are indexed.
