The display is gone so why have it in the way?

I am using a 19" dell monitor.

When I removed the screen, I could not get it to work.

Is it possible to 'fool' the laptop into thinking that the screen is
there?

Thanks

Is your laptop display connected?

I am attempting to completely remove it, leaving just the keyboard,
etc.

no the screen is just folded all the time and I use an attached monitor,
keyboard and mouse.
If your machine is capable of using a docking station, ebay has them cheap.

I don't know about your Dell, but some laptops have a switch triggered by
the screen position. The switch can be configured to shut the laptop off if
the screen is folded down. If yours is set up that way, it will probably
not run at all with the screen folded down. If you can get the thing to
run at all, check the "Power Options" under Control Panel, or wherever your
power options happen to be. It's usually easy to inactivate that option so
that the laptop will be operational open or closed.
