I cannot resove calendar and contact items, nor select folders for Inbox.

Mobile Outlook is set up to synchronize with Exchange server at work.

When sync'd via USB at home, using ActiveSync on my PC, the Status for
Calendar, Contacts, and Inbox reads "Sync status is on the device" but I
cannot find the sync status for these anywhere on the device.

Right-clicking on Calendar or Contacts, all items are grey'd out except
Resolve Items... Clicking that returns the following error:
"Information Type Not Synchronized - Items of one or more information types
cannot be synchronized. Disconnect and reconnect your device. To view all
error messages and dialog boxes that require your input, you must connect to
this computer via infrared or serial/USB cable."

Right-clicking on Inbox, all items are grey'd out except Settings...
Clicking Select Folders button returns the error:
"Microsoft Activesync - Before you can select additional e-mail folders for
synchronization, you must first connect your mobile device to this computer
and synchronize Inbox information."

Neither of these make any sense.

I was under the impression that it was one or the other. If you sync
calendar, contacts, and mail with a server, you can't sync the same items
with a desktop connection, and vice versa.

So if you've got activesync set to sync directly to the exchange server, you
won't be able to sync those three items from another source then.

Well that truly sucks because my work's email server crashed recently and it
looks like I'm going to lose all the calendar, contacts, and email stored on
my PDA in order to make it sync with the newly reloaded server. It's
difficult to imagine that Microsoft did not consider the possibility of users
wishing to make backups of this data at home.
