Internet through Activesync - is it possible on a SmartPhone? Tom Gordon 04-27-2007

Hello!

I've been a Pocket PC person for many years. Recently I switched to a
Samsung BlackJack SmartPhone. With my Pocket PC's I could access the
Internet through my ActiveSync connection hooked to my desktop PC. Can I
do the same with my BlackJack? I'm using Vista and WMDC and Vista Sync
Center.

If so, how do I do it?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Yes, it is! :-)

Connect to Windows Mobile Device Center (by cable or Bluetooth)
Open the Internet Explorer Mobile -> Menu -> Options -> Connections ->
deselect "automatically detect settings." -> "Select network: The
Internet" -> Done

At least that's how it is working for me w/o any problems.

That's a pretty nifty feature. It works well in WinXP too.
Just remember that some of the Cingular shortcuts won't work via that method
(like MEdiaNet etc) because they rely on a proxy used by the WAP connection.

BTW, suppossedly the *reverse* is just as easy. You can access the Internet
on your laptop via the BlackJack. I haven't tried it yet myself, but it
seems straightforward:
