International Phone Numbers Derek Erb 09-24-2007

I've been using Outlook for years along with my mobile phones.

I have just today replaced my Blackberry with a new HTC S710 running
Windows Mobile 6.

In Outlook, and therefore in my Contacts in all of my phones, all of
my phone numbers are entered with the international prefix and
normally they dial correctly from wherever I am. However now NONE of
my phone numbers work in this new phone. I get a recording back
saying the number is invalid.

All of my numbers are entered in exactly the same format:

+CountryCode (prefix only used when calling domestically) rest of the
number

Examples:

+33 (0) 6 55 55 55 55 (French mobile number)
+44 (0) 207 555 5555 (London fixed number)
+1 (212) 555 1212 (New York City number)

None of these work on my phone.

I am dreading the news that I may have to change every number in
Outlook, as I have hundreds, and I'm hoping that someone call tell me
where I can switch a setting somewhere to make this work.

Help!!!

Thank you in advance for any assistance or suggestions you may provide.

Weird- your format examples below are correct. Did you change mobile
operators when you changed phones? Some U.S. carriers don't accept
the "+," IIRC.

WM supports GSM-standard international dialing, so I suspet the
problem might be an operator issue. That format works on my HTC.

Hello guys.

I think the correct format is with no spaces, no zeroes and no brackets:

+33655555555 (French mobile number)
+442075555555 (London fixed number)
+12125551212 (New York City number)

That's how I have my contacts numbers in my phone, located in Europe, and it
works just fine.
One question: will this format work correctly when I travel to the States
and call abroad from there?

Cheers,

Steff

Thanks for the reply...

But...

I find this upsetting.

I've been using these phone numbers in Outlook for over 10 years and
even more telephones. Various models of Nokia phones, at least 6 or
8, and then a couple of Blackberry handsets and I've never had to
change my phone numbers in Outlook. The Blackberry can even dial
phone numbers which appear in text in Notes fields and e-mail
messages.

I change to Windows Mobile 6 and I have to change ALL of the phone
numbers in ALL of my contacts?

I'm not only worried about myself... I'm worried about my clients who
I am recommending Windows Mobile 6 to. If this continues I'm going to
have to have a good look at the iPhone (which does not have the
keyboard I need) or the new Blackberry handsets.

Arggggghhhhhhh!

To try and work out where the problem is I ran some tests.

I tried manually dialing +330655555555 on my Nokia, my Blackbery and
my HTC. It did not work on any of them.

I tried manually dialing +33655555555 on each phone and it worked
fine.

I then tried dialing from my Contacts on the Nokia where the phone
number is entered +33 (0) 6 55 55 55 55 and it dialled perfectly. I
did the same on the Blackberry. On the Blackberry I can actually see
what it dials and it translated automatically from +33 (0) 6 55 55 55
55 to +33655555555. The Nokia is obviously doing the same thing.

There must be a setting somewhere on my HTC or in Windows Mobile 6
which allows for this sort of translation...
