I had MSN search running, but the icon is now missing from the system tray. I
can't find it in start>all programs, control panel>add or remove programs
doesn't show it, and task manager lists nothing that looks like it might be
it. I downloaded MsnSearchToolbarSetup_en-us.exe, but when I run it it says
there's a newer version already installed.

I'd appreciate any help figuring out what's going on here.

It just occurred to me that when I installed OneNote2007 beta, it said I had
to install a new search program. Did that replace the MSN desktop search? If
so, how do I now search the desktop?

Hi, that sounds like my problem. I installed Office 2007 beta when it
happened. I want to keep a tab on your thread, and maybe you can keep a tab
on mine. I se there's a button on the bottom to get notified. Good luck to
us. I love the search tool, and donw't want ot be without it. It's better
than Googles, I think.

Desktop Search Beta 3.0 (the one Office 2007 suggests installing to enable
instant search in Outlook) doesn't have a UI yet.

quote from 2nd paragraph on the DL page:

"This release of Windows Desktop Search does not include full desktop UI
and is an engine preview only. It is meant to support searching from desktop
applications such as Microsoft Office Outlook and OneNote 2007. Since this
release does not provide a full desktop search experience, users of earlier
versions of Windows Desktop Search and MSN Toolbar should not upgrade to
this release unless directed to by Outlook 2007, OneNote 2007 or another
application. The next beta release of WDS 3.0 will include end-user UI to
allow searching over all indexed content from a single place."

Thank you, I'm most happy to have that cleared up for me. I'm not good at
reading fine print :)
