Hi, I've read some news about the new update for Windows Mobile that will be
released during 2008. I have a HTC S710 with WM6 and i'm very interested at
the new features, like copy and paste and multiple selection's function. My
question is: will this update be available also to update smarthones based on
Windows Mobile 6, like mine, or will it be installed only on new smartphones
and there will be no chance to have WM6.1 installed on my device?

Thanks in advance!

As always, that would be entirely dependent on where you got your phone. If
you bought the phone direct from HTC, they would have to release any update
for their phone. If you got it through AT&T or someone, with their branding,
whoever sold it would have to provide any such updates. That's the way the
WM model has always been, and there will likely be no change any time soon.

Thanks for your question. My HTC smartphone is not branded, so I'll wait for
an update from HTC in the next year.

Thanks again and bye!

Yup, HTC is where it would come from, and you probably have a decent chance
that they will. They have not been a direct vendor that long and will try to
create a positive image. It is often touchier with branded phones, because
even if it is an HTC device, HTC needs to customize it for the carrier, at
the request of the carier and then tha carrier needs to provide it. Lots
more steps, and often the carriers are more interested in pushing new
models...with new contracts, than cultivating user loyalty.
