Hi Guys,
Can anyone point me to a source of free data for the boundaries of the
states in India, preferably Shapefile, MapInfo, dxf, or dwg format.
TIA,
Cheers,

Hi Guys,
Problem solved.
I found the day that I was after, and lots more useful data at
http://www.cipotato.org/DIVA/data/DataServer.htm
I now feel pretty dumb and embarrassed that I didn't already know about this
website :-(
Cheers,
Pete Loud

Please log in for more thread options hi Pete,
The dataset you found, although a good one, is not updated.
for eg. the state (ADM 1) boundaries have changed becuase Bihar state
has
been divided into
Bihar and Jharkhand off late. there is one more state like that.
also one state bndry goes into pakistan, which is not right.
I think the UNEP dataset will be more recent. also you can go to
surveyofindia.gov.in
It is the official site of the survey of india, the national survey
agency. also their boundary data is
considered binding in all leagal matters within India. they have a
"toposheet" index on theie
website as well.
HTH.
by the way, just curious, why do you need the admin boundary data?
(just a
curoious GIS Indian
guy!)
regards,
Suraj

Please log in for more thread options Thanks for information on the changes.
I've updated the data. My only problem was that I didn't know whether
Hardwar is in Uttar Pradesh or Uttaranchal.
Cheers,
Pete Loud
