Hi Ian,
There are a couple of questions here so let me try to take them one at a
time. :)
1) I want WDS to index items stored on in an SQL Server database.
This can be done however you'll need a protocol handler that will allow
you to crawl the SQL database.
2) Can I send a URL for others to access my index?
No. The index is a per system (and depending on the version per user)
thing. However, if the information you are looking for is on the SQL Server
that is shared and the other users have access to there should be a way to
send them shortcuts to the information on the server.
hth!
