I am trying to view a .avi video that i have downloaded via VCL. I can
view the video on my lap top screen and can see the replica screen on my
television but I cannot see the video. I have tried to run in win media
player but to no avail. Any ideas is it a codec problem. It is strange how
I can see it on the lappy screen but not on the tv.

You might need to power down the TV/LCD Monitor, connect the cables from
the laptop, and then power up the TV/LCD Monitor. Sometimes, depending
on the destination screen, the destination can only 'see' the video if
cables are connected in a powered-down state.

I had similaron HP and Dell - the TV would show everything except the actual
video.
Concluded (poss wrong) that the laptop graphics circuits just couldn't
manage to create two different video streams.
Now just use the fn-F4 or fn-F8 to select TV only.

You are the closest. Indeed, in general, multi head graphics chips contain
only one set of video overlay circuitry. As a result the video can be
overlayed on either monitor but not both. Some graphics chips use the
conventional video circuit if the video is shown full screen (thus not being
overlaid), and will show the video on both monitors in this mode. Some will
even allow full screen on one and overlaid on the other.
