IE with results freezes Kerry 08-26-2005

From the address field in my tool bar I enter a search term and press "Web"
and my XP Pro IE opens with a list of results on
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?form=DESKBR&q=time. I click a hyperlink of
one of the results and again IE opens, but with a new page, just as
expected. But when I click on any hyperlink on the desired page I get the
system bong sound. If I try to select the URL from the address filed I get
the bong (and it won't select so that I can copy paste it) . Da bong hapens
when I try to close the page by clicking the close box in the upper right
corner. The only way out is to close the results paginge. IE Is my default
browser.

It doesn't happen all the time nor can I tell what brings it about.

Any one el/se have this probelm, is there a fix for this?

Thanks,

Kerry

I have not encountered this problem. It seems like the hyperlink (URL)
association may be corrupt or confused at times, since it isn't always
happening. The fact that the search opens a new page in IE, or a new browser
instance, means you've selected that option to happen. The fact that the
resulting hyperlinks in the search window are not click-able seems like your
system doesn't know what to do with hyperlinks found in that browser instance.
Have you tried a repair of IE? Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, select
Internet Explorer and then repair.

Hi Stephen,

I tried your "repair" trick, Control Panel, Add/Remove Windows Components,
with only Internet Explorer selected but I saw no "repair" option. In any
case whatever happened (it appeared to reinstall it) I still have the problem.

Just so that you're clear. The list of results appears as they do say in
Google. I then click a hyperlink and it opens one of the result's websites.
When I click on a hyperlink on the page I get the gong, even when I press box
to close that page.

Because of the other problem I posted where I can't find a known Thunderbird
email (when I first installed the MS Desktop Search it did find my test TB
email) it's almost to the point where I have to try making Firefox or Avant
my default browser or go back to Google's Desktop Search. Too bad because I
loved MS DTS.

Thanks,

Kerry

I haven't done a repair in a while, so that option may have been removed in
favor of a reinstall. It's unfortunate that the problem wasn't resolved.

So, the problem is not the links of the results page, but any page that you
navigate to from the list of links? That's even odder. And random, too, you say?
What happens if you leave that new window, the one that gongs, active for a
while? When you click from the list of links, does it launch a new window or is
it launching within the same window?

It does sound like there may be several problems at once on your system. How
about a complete uninstall of Desktop Search and the Toolbar, reboot, and a
reinstall?

You're welcome. I hope we can get to the bottom of it! Did you try the MSN
contact link I posted? Perhaps we can get an answer that way...

Hi Stephen,

I have not filled out a trouble ticket yet, I was hoping we would resolve
the problems.

I uninstalled and reinstalled and rebooted and loaded the Thunderbird addon
again and then reindexed and still search doesn't find an email with the name
Dinitz in the body.

Thanks,

Kerry
