Mostly because your phone is two generations old. Current Smartphones with
Media Player 10 have the option of very similar experience as iTunes, but
with the bonus of being able to select from a number of music vendors,
including Napster, Walmart Music, and others. The iPod just caught up with
the video experience that PPC and Smartphones have had for some time now.
While Apple iTunes locks you into the iPod for playback. OK there's the
Rokr, but can we really count that with the 100 song limit? ;) The MS
concept provides a wide choice in players. The same tunes downloaded for
your MP10 equipped Smartphone, PPC or Portable Media Center can also be
played on your Samsung, Creative or Dell (etc.) media players as well.

I can't say the MS experience is as seamless and simple as Apple's, but it
comes at the expense of consumer choice. Funny that this comes from a
company that in 1984 made a big splash throwing off the shackles of
corporate regimentation.

Well, let me cut through the propaganda, starting from
the top. (No paragraph breaks to make you sweat.) WMP
on an SP is not similar to an ipod. It's similar to
nothing but WMP itself, and most other SP players (most
basically work the same, good or bad isn't the point,
but last count, there were only two others). Second,
who wants to buy tunes? Really? Who? OK, ipod users,
obviously, but who with an SP is going to buy tunes to
put on a phone? Not very many. Good luck with DRM in
general; you'll need it with WMP. So, encode your own
tracks from CD. The problem with that is, most phones
tuck the storage card under the battery, so you can't
just whip out the card and plug it into a card writer.
So just copy the tunes over -- right? Use ActiveSlow.
With an ipod, or practically any other player, you plug
it into a super-fast USB2 port and you've got a new drive
letter to copy over to. Why, after nearly a decade, does
CE not do this simple thing? (o) Video on a portable.
While it may seem spiffy to play a movie trailer to the
awe of spectators, it gets to be a drag spending 10 minutes
encoding every 1 minute to watch. And how many times do
you plan on watching that 220x180 program anyway? Once?
I can see someone wanting to pay a buck or two to download
a missed episode of Lost, sans commercials, but to spend
5 hours encoding it from an already saved (somehow) program,
and still have commercials? If you've got the time, all
right - go for it. Last, the RokR 100-tune capacity. How
many with an SP have more than 100 tunes (500 MB) on it?
Not many. How many of those RokRs will even bother using
the iTunes music store? Not many. They'll do what most
do, plug it in and download (or is that upload). The "MS
concept"? What concept is that? DRM that only works
when stored to main memory, and won't work anymore when
moved to a storage card (need wmp10, and hope nothing goes
wrong)? And one where you have to use ActiveSlow. If you
have the time - go for it. What a concept! hah

It was a time i'm getting close to Mac ... I just mean that software can
made for better!
M$ should do this for the end user!

In my opinion now the software upgrade is nothing but a caution that you
should buy new handware to speed up for your software^_^.The software
should be more with ideas something like iPod.

That's so.

Are you talking about apps for the phone? Well, you have to remember that MS
created the OS in your phone. They did not make the software to solely play
MP3s and any tools built into an OS tend to never be full featured apps.
That's where 3rd party companies come in. Other companies (not Microsoft)
write software for the phones. So its not really MS fault that somebody
hasn't written a an application you don't like. By the way, did try any of
the many MP3 player applications out there for your smartphone? There are a
lot of good MP3 apps out there.

Why is iPod better? Because it was built only to play media files and Apple
controls all aspects of the hardware and software on the device. It is a
closed architecture - purpose built device. So if you want to compare it to
your smartphone, you should really consider how well your friends iPod does
phone calls, plays games, browses the web, etc. No comparison...
