I can't reinstall MDS after uninstall???? NEED HELP! Louis R 01-10-2006

A couple of months ago I uninstalled MDS after I found that it was severely
slowing down my PC. I then did a Restore to a earlier date as I found that
the uninstallation of MDS caused my system to lock up and I could not restart
it properly.
Ever since then when I try to explore a drive I get a error message:
#msnb_toolbar_full_name# is unable to load its config file#.
It then tells me to reinstall the program which I i have tried to do a
number of times and get another error message stating:
"This version of MSN Search Toolbar is already installed on your computer.
Click OK to cancel the installation.". OK button is my only option here.

I have checked the Programs Installed section on my PC and the MDS is not
listed. I can only conclude that the System Restore has reinstated some data
or so in my Registry or somewhere like that but I am not sure how to clean it
up from there or wherever it is sitting in Windows XP Pro.

Can some one help me here. Thanks. Louis

Hi Louis,
Seems this problem is quite common. Your install of WDS (not MDS) has
been corrupted somehow, either from improper uninstall or some other
unknown issues. To solve this problem you must cleanly uninstall WDS.
To do this, download the Windows Cleanup Utility
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301),
install it and make sure you remove all instances of WDS.
Update us on your progress.

Thanks David for the response but I have already used the Windows Cleanup
Utility program but did not see any reference to the MSN Search Toolbar
installation. I even used a program called Registry Mechanic to see if it
could fix the proplem but it didn't pick up the error either. Do you have any
other suggestions for me. Thanks.

Louis,

Other's are having the same problem and it seems someone has found a
fix by performing a factory restore. See the topic in this newsgroup
with the title: unable to load config file
