I noticed, that although I had uninstalled the trial of Opera for
Smartphones, a folder remained from it, at \Storage\Windows\AppMgr. I tried
to delete the folder, using the File Manager that came on the phone. I got
an error message, that it wouldn't delete ("Error-Failed to delete
........").

I looked in the folder. There is one file there, named 0F01.tmp. I tried to
delete the file. Same error message, wouldn't delete.

I tried Resco File Manager. Same problem. I tried connecting to the desktop
PC via ActiveSync, and using the "Explore" function of AS to delete the file
from the Smartphone. I got the same error message.

I rebooted the smartphone, and again tried to delete the file with the
phone's file manager. Still didn't work.

How can I delete a file in main memory that seems resistant to deletion?

After reading your posts I uninstalled the expired Opera trial from my
MPx220, using the Start/Settings/Remove Programs link. The message said
"Uninstalled Successully"; after which I located a tmp ile (differently named
than yours) in the same path you referred to. I was able to delete from the
Storage\Windows\AppMgr folder level, with one confirmation prompt, using
Binarys Smart Explorer SE. It hasn't reappeared after rebooting.

Interesting. I also tried that file manager (Binarys), as well as others,
and nothing would delete that file. I don't know what the difference is.

I wrote another post about his, posted to the developer NGs as well as this
one, after doing an Internet search, and finding that many others had had
this problem, with PPCs as well as SPs, and with different apps. (I didn't
yet find a solution though.)

I'm glad you didn't have that problem, and the file deleted. I wonder why it
worked with you and not with me. I'll look at Binarys again.

Keep us posted on your progress and I'll try to enactt a more detailed
scenario to report here.

By the way, it's not just Opera. (See other thread on this topic.) I looked
again in that appmgr folder, which contains many application folders, and
saw there were several from applications I had uninstalled. I tried to
delete those folders, and couldn't. Each one had one .tmp file in it, that
could not be deleted.
(I bet a lot of people have that problem, and don't realize it.)

Check if you have other folders in there from uninstalled programs, and if
so, whether you can delete them as well.
